The thing is, the "Vaccine Fact Sheet" is really, really not fact based. Just by reading it, I could immediately see the bias of the writer, it reaches out and tries to counter arguments you might hear on certain independent media outlets about the safety of the vaccine, and the risks of not being vaccinated. Well, I did a little checking on some other sites, and I think it will be interesting to line up what my local health agency says compared to other sources. Aka: We're gonna infofrag them.
Apologies for the quality of the following "scans", they were done with my HTC Dream and the papers got a little folded.

Who should get the h1n1 vaccine - Arepanrix?
First thing's first. According to NRPH, Pretty much everybody should get the vaccine, as long as they are older than 6 months, and they lay out a priority system since obviously there isn't enough vaccine to go around. The thesis of this document then is that we are all at risk.
What are the priority groups..?
Pregnant women are in this category, and so are young children. I understand the need for people who work in dangerous fields of work to have priority, or those who have existing health conditions, but why women and children? I'm no doctor, but I thought pregnant women were generally supposed to be careful about what they put in their bodies. Also, reading the information over at Health Canada, it seems like they haven't done much testing as to whether it's safe for some of these demographics or not. I did a little digging out there on the interwebs and found substantial evidence that mercury is not something you want to have excess of in your blood ever, especially not if you have a developing brain in the mix. Check the required reading section to see for yourself.
Who should NOT get the h1n1 flu vaccine?
If you're only 5 months old it seems like this vaccine is not for you. Also if you're sensitive to eggs, thimerosal or formaldehyde, this vaccine isn't for you. The reason for that is that the vaccine requires live flu virus to be grown at one part of the production process, and they do it in rotting bird eggs - that's a very dumbed down version of it. Thimerosol is a mercury-based preservatve that they will tell us about later. They say formaldehyde is used in the manufacturing process somehow. Health Canada says each shot contains 2.5 micrograms of mercury. They also contain an adjuvant called squalene. An adjuvant is something which stimulates the immune system into hyperactivity, and it is used to enhance the immune response to the vaccine. The problem is squalene isn't the safest thing either, especially if you happened to have an undiagnosed immune system problem.
How many doses of the H1N1 vaccine will I require this season?
Please, sir, may I have some more? Seriously, they recommend kids between 6 months and 10 years of age to get a second h1n1 shot twenty-one days after the first one. Aren't there health risks? If one shot is not recommended for a 5 month old baby, why does a 6 month old baby get two? If you're older than 10 you can only have one shot for h1n1, sorry. See page 2 for seasonal flu vaccine advertisements.
If I have been diagnosed with the h1n1 flu virus do I still need the vaccine?
Okay, I actually don't blame them for this one. Sounds like idiot-proofing to me. They know for a fact everyone with a runny nose or sore throat is wondering if they've contracted the piggy-flu. But hey - even if you had the flu, the vaccine - in their words - can cause no harm. That's interesting, because it seems like even if you haven't had h1n1 the vaccine could still cause you harm. However, our social controllers understand the need to keep the cattle calm. They reassure us constantly in each point that everything is safe, alright, but we are all at risk and all need the shot...

Is the h1n1 flu vaccine safe?
Shouldn't this have been the first question in the document? It was certainly my first question. Well, luckily, the answer is yes. "The government of Canada employs the most advanced science available in the world to help ensure the safety and effectiveness of vaccines used in Canada." That's a pretty heavy claim. Maybe I should check Health Canada and see what they think about Arepanrix h1n1:
There is currently limited clinical experience with Arepanrix™ H1N1, and limited clinical experience with an investigational formulation of another AS03-adjuvanted vaccine containing the same or a slightly higher amount of antigen derived from A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) (see section Pharmacodynamics) in healthy adults aged 18-60 years and no clinical experience yet in the elderly, in children or in adolescents.
Well, that's not nearly as re-assuring as the public relations document. According to this, maybe that advanced science we heard about wasn't really available. Well, let's see what they actually did do..
Adults aged 18-60 years:
One dose of 0.5mL at an elected date.
The need for a second dose is currently unknown.
Solid, Solid. That sounds pretty confident. What else do you have for me?
Elderly (>60 years):
No clinical data are available for Arepanrix™ H1N1 in this age group.
Oh well, old people are just like everybody else, right? It can't be that important to test them.
Children and adolescents aged 10-17 years:
No clinical data are available for any influenza vaccines with AS03 in this age group. Consideration may be given to dosing in accordance with recommendations for adults
People in that age range have a lot of chemical changes going on in their bodies. Hormones and adjuvants present at the very least an opportunity to test if they interact at all.. This doesn't sound very thorough. I thought we used the best science in the world to prove it was safe?
Children aged from 6-35 months:
No clinical data are available for influenza vaccines with AS03 in this age group. Consideration may be given to dosing in accordance with the recommendation in children aged 3-9 years.
Children aged less than 6 months:
Vaccination is not currently recommended in this age group.
For further information, see section Pharmacodynamics.
So we didn't bother to see what happens if you give a vaccine to young people in the age range of 6mo-35mo (Actually, that age range gets two shots), but we do recommend you not vaccinate someone under the age of six months. Could it be that maybe it's been shown that vaccinations containing thimerosol or other mercury-based preservatives have a high incidence of causing autism, and other retardation? From the sounds of things there have been no long-term studies on the matter, just assurances that our government knows best.
Then, they drop the adjuvant bombshell. The document states that adjuvants have been in use a long time and they're safe. They don't tell you which one, but I found out it was Squalene on the product info page on Health Canada. Funny story about squalene: it's manufactured by a "Big Pharma" company, GlaxoSmithKline. Because of the 'Level 6 Pandemic', the Canadian government has granted total legal immunity from any liability for damages caused by the H1N1 vaccine containing the adjuvant. They tell us it's safe, they didn't test it, and the company who made it can't be challenged in court.
Does the H1N1 vacine contain mercury? If so, does this pose a risk?
There is no safety reason to avoid using vaccines containing thimerisol. the best available scientific evidence to date shows no link between thimierisol-containing vaccines and any adverse health conditions, including neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.
Well, as we saw earlier, the best "available" scientific evidence is woefully inadequate. Why is the evidence not available to the government? All it took me was a few google searches. You see, some people who actually did tests found that if you take a bunch of thimerisol and put it in a bunch of monkeys, they develop autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Apparently before 1990, when mercury was not very prevalent and vaccinations were few, autism was occuring in about 1 in 5000 American Children. Then in the 90s, there was a strong media push for thimerisol-preserved vaccinations, and by the year 2000 the rate of autism in children was 1 in 150.
If that wasn't enough, in 2008, the US Federal court ruled in favor of parents whose child regressed into autism after receiving 9 vaccines in one day. The child needed the vaccines to be allowed into school. They're saying there's no evidence showing anything to worry about but I'm worried. Then they throw in a little tag-line, just so you know how far down the chain of command this media push is coming: They tell you that the US Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization are totally down with thimerisol use. Apparently we should intrinsically trust these foreign, multinational groups with our health.
Will I still need to get the seasonal flu vaccine?
But of course. 25 micrograms of mercury once a year just isn't enough, make sure you take vaccines for everything.
When do I get the seasonal flu vaccine?
And here, the document pushes the idea of an artificial shortage, and a careful rollout by our savior the government, who wisely grants protection to those on the front lines of the fight against this heinous disease.
Screening Tool:
From mobile |
I'm not sure what to make of this screening tool. Some of these questions seem relevant but some are really out there. Are you a firefighter? Are you from a remote community? Unforunately, as I mentioned earlier, there's no key or index which explains what answering these questions means in terms of receiving the vaccine.
If you can stomach a lot of crunchy numbers at charts, I highly recommend you read the Health Canada link in the required reading. I wanted to bring more information over into this article but it's long enough already. I may have to do a part two. However, I think we can say this one was a head shot.
